Safety Never open a cooling system that is still hot — escaping coolant and steam cause serious burns. This is a fuel-burning engine. Never run it in an enclosed space or occupy the vehicle while it runs without a working carbon monoxide detector, and let hot parts cool before touching anything.

What it means

Engine over temperature — a first-level fault shown as one blink. On a liquid-cooled Quiet Diesel the controller declares it when coolant temperature passes 239 °F (115 °C) for ten seconds during normal operation. Air-cooled gasoline and LPG sets have no coolant sensor and do not use one blink as a fault at all.

Most likely causes

Coolant level low, or a leak in the cooling system most likely
Air inlet or outlet in the bottom of the genset blocked, or radiator passages fouled with dirt most likely
Too many appliances running at once, made worse by high ambient temperature or altitude common
Housing panel or the AC terminal access cover missing or loose, letting hot air recirculate inside the housing common
Loose or broken fan belt less common
Harness connector at the coolant temperature sender loose — a lead touching ground reads as high temperature less common
Coolant thermostat not opening fully, or a failed temperature sender less common

Safe checks you can do yourself

With the engine cold, check the coolant level at the recovery tank and top it up; look for the leak if it was low.
Clear anything blocking the air inlet and outlet openings in the bottom of the genset, and brush dirt out of the radiator fins.
Check that every housing panel and the AC terminal access cover is fitted and secure — a missing cover lets the set breathe its own hot air.
Run fewer appliances at once, especially in heat or at altitude, and see whether it stays running.
Look for a loose or broken fan belt.
Check that the wiring connector on the coolant temperature sender is pushed home.

How to reset / clear Fault 1

Let the engine cool, correct the cause, then restart.
To re-display a logged code, press Stop three times within five seconds — the blinking times out after five minutes (fifteen on the HGJAA series). The controller keeps replaying the last fault even after the cause is gone; only a successful run clears it.

When to call a technician

Coolant, airflow and panels are all in order and it still overheats — the thermostat, the sender or the cooling passages need service.

Accuracy notes

Only liquid-cooled sets use this code. If you are counting one blink on an air-cooled gasoline or LPG set, count a full cycle again — the KY and KYD manuals document only three and four blinks as first-level faults.
