RV fridge error codes: your RV brand didn't build your fridge
There is no such thing as a Keystone fridge code or a Jayco fridge code. RV makers buy appliances from a short list of suppliers, and the fault belongs to whoever built the fridge. Find that name and the code stops being a mystery.
The 60-second version
Open the fridge and look for a data plate — usually on a side wall inside, behind the crisper drawer, or on the back of the unit; on many RVs it is easiest to reach through the lower vent door on the outside of the coach. The plate carries the manufacturer and a model number. If you cannot get to it, you do not have to: the shape of the code on the panel already narrows it down to one or two makers.

Match what the panel is doing, then follow the link to that maker's codes.
A single light flashing a count
Quarter-second flashes, a pause, and the sequence repeating every four seconds. That is BD-type compressor electronics — the Dometic CRX and NRX 12 V fridges. Count the flashes and read the decoder.
A flash count in the high single digits
Counts of 8, 9 or 10 are not the compressor family — Norcold uses higher counts on its own fault light. If you counted more than five, you are on the Norcold list.
Numbered lights on the temperature control panel
Numbered indicator lights flashing individually or in pairs, rather than one light counting out a number. That is the Everchill 12 V fridge fitted to many current travel trailers. Two of those lights lit steadily is not a fault at all.
"E" plus two digits on a display
A display showing E03, E07, E09 or E50 is a Dometic absorption fridge — the kind that also runs on propane. Different machine, different failure modes.
"W" plus two digits, or a paired number like 05 / W05
Dometic splits warnings from errors. A W code is the same family as the E codes above and is read from the same display.
"E" plus a single digit, or EL / EH
Single-digit E codes and the EL/EH pair belong to Furrion 12 V fridges, read from the door display. E3, for example, is a freezer sensor fault — not anything specific to the RV it is bolted into.
Short words instead of numbers
A display spelling out something like "no FL", "no CO", "no AC" or "dr" is Norcold. These read as abbreviations: no FL is no flame detected on gas.
If two rows could fit, check the count range first — it is the cleanest split. One light counting 1 to 5 is the compressor family; 8 to 10 is Norcold; separate numbered lights on a panel is Everchill.
Why the RV brand is never the answer
Keystone, Jayco, Forest River, Grand Design, Coachmen, Heartland and Winnebago do not build refrigerators. They buy them, and the same handful of suppliers turn up across all of them: Dometic, Norcold, Furrion and Everchill for fridges. Two of those are the same company — Lippert acquired Furrion in 2019 and Everchill's maker, Way Interglobal, in 2022.
This is also why "which fridge is in a Keystone?" is the wrong question to ask the internet. Fitment changes by model year, by floorplan and by the plant that built the unit, so any answer you find is a snapshot of somebody else's trailer. Identifying the appliance in front of you takes a minute and is right every time.
Absorption or 12 V compressor? It halves the search
Two completely different machines get called an RV fridge. An absorption fridge has no compressor: it drives cooling with heat, from propane or an electric element, and it needs to be reasonably level to work. Its failures are about the burner and the boiler — no flame, gas lock, a lockout after repeated ignition attempts.
A 12 V compressor fridge works like the one in your house, only on battery voltage. It does not care about propane or levelling, and its failures are about power and heat: voltage at the terminals, cable size, airflow over the condenser, a stalled fan.
You can tell them apart without a data plate. Look behind the lower outside vent: a burner assembly and a propane line means absorption. If there is no gas connection anywhere and the fridge runs from the battery alone, it is a compressor unit. Once you know which one you have, half the code lists on this site stop being relevant.
Where to look for the data plate
Inside the fridge, the plate is usually on a side wall near the top, on the ceiling of the fresh-food compartment, or hidden behind the crisper drawer. Outside, it is often on the back or the side of the unit and easiest to read through the lower vent door on the side of the coach.
The model number itself carries the answer: Dometic CRX and NRX are the 12 V compressor units, while RM and DM prefixes are absorption models. Everchill units carry SRD or WD model numbers. Norcold and Furrion put their name on the front, so if you can see a brand on the door you already have what you need.

What is the E3 error on a Keystone RV fridge?
Keystone did not build the fridge, so E3 is not a Keystone code. A single-digit E code on an RV fridge door display is a Furrion unit, and E3 there is a freezer-compartment temperature sensor fault — the thermistor is reading out of range or has failed. The same reasoning applies to any RV brand: identify the appliance maker, then look up the code.
How do I find out which fridge is in my Forest River or Jayco?
Read the data plate on the unit rather than searching by RV brand. Fitment varies by model year, floorplan and plant, so brand-level answers found online are unreliable. The plate takes a minute to find and is definitive.
My fridge just flashes a light and shows no code at all. Is it broken?
A flashing light is the code. Count the flashes: a single light counting one to five in quarter-second flashes, repeating every four seconds, is a 12 V compressor fridge of the Dometic CRX/NRX family. Higher counts of eight to ten point at Norcold. Separately numbered lights on a control panel point at Everchill.
Does the RV manufacturer have to fix an appliance fault under warranty?
Appliances normally carry the component manufacturer's own warranty, which is why RV owner literature refers you to the appliance maker's manual and service network. That is another reason the maker's name matters more than the RV brand on the door.
